It’s been a little bit of a hectic week, but hectic in a good way, because I’ve been able to see lots of my favorite people.
Monday, I was here in Maryland, working a normal day of work. I was feeling pretty wonky and out of it after a busy weekend up in Philly, but I was alive and somehow by the grace of god, also made it to the office.
Tuesday, Cait and I met up to run and I worked a half day before meeting Caits at home and driving down to Richmond to see my dad for his birthday while my grandma was in town. We baked our faces off and probably consumed way above the legal limit (what?) of sugar. Go hard or go home. We did.
Wednesday, I “slept in” until 7:30 when I was woken up by my little bro who was getting ready for school and “really wanted waffles” and my Dad who was blasting the Beatles’ Happy Birthday song from his office downstairs. You know, just in case we had forgotten it was his birthday and had any thought of going about the day as usual.
He also told us he would NOT be doing any dishes that day (even though he’s really good at it), so Cait and I did our best to stay out of the kitchen and didn’t bake too much. We ran around town, ate some birthday cake, played some games, and taught my little brother things he has no business knowing or saying at age 9. Oops.
Today, even after getting home at a semi-decent hour on Wednesday, I could not pry myself out of bed to go running with the sis when my 5:30 alarm buzzed. Lucky for me, neither could Cait, and we both decided on an extra hour and a half of shut-eye. I finally got up, showered, stumbled around, threw in a load of laundry, gathered two weeks of drycleaning to drop off, made my lunch, forgot to put on makeup and was out the door by 7:30. Worked through the morning, put some gosh darn makeup on, ran errands at lunch, worked through the afternoon and drove straight home to squeeze in a run before babysitting tonight.
And there’s a little method…er, smoothie…to all this madness, which has really kept me going over these past few days. Like all of the other green smoothies sprinkled across the blogopshere, this baby is packed with spinach which was crucial to help keep my energy levels up, since so many of my other meals this week were probably lacking in the nutrient department. Womp.
Here ya go!
chocolate orange green smoothie
- 2-3 cups raw spinach
- 3 ice cubes
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 7 drops NuNaturals orange
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use Tera’s Whey)
- 1 tablespoon dark chocolate cocoa powder
- 1 pinch of Xantham gum
The star of this recipe is definitely the NuNaturals orange stevia that the company sent me to try in a little package with some other goodies. A spoonful of almond butter added to the mix above would definitely add some more staying power!
This smoothie tastes just like those solid chocolate oranges that always seemed to disappear first out of my Christmas stocking. Or you know, when I’d casually pick one up at the grocery store and it was gone in just a few days. But that’s neither here nor there.
Anyway, try this smoothie. And give yourself a little break! Tomorrow is Friday after all!
